The law relating to body piercing and tattoo

The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 Part VIII provides that the following types of skin piercing are registered with the Council:

• Acupuncture
• Ear-piercing
• Electrolysis
• Tattooing

Both you and your premises will need to be registered and you will need to ensure that your procedures, equipment and facilities are safe, hygienic, prevent the spread of disease and comply fully with the duty of care required by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
