Simple Tips for writing your Ad!

Great news! AdTrader have made it so quick and easy to make some spare cash! First get rid of any unwanted presents AND have good clear out. Don’t forget - one persons junk is another person’s treasure, what you don’t love someone else will.

Here are some simple tips on how to maximise the selling potential of your bits and pieces.
Take pictures – yes and lots of them, show exactly what you are selling to the great buying public. Pictures are easy to load to your advert, see our “idiots guide” (no offence)!

Make sure that you spell all brand names correctly; someone searching for a Bosch won’t find your old washing machine if you have spelt it Bosh! You wouldn’t believe how many people can’t spell Peugeot! (most Peugeot owners)!

The best ads start with the make and model of the item. If you are not sure fish out the users’ guide that came with the item, or look online. The instruction booklet will also remind you exactly what that item was designed to do and armed with that essential information you can write your ad.

Which of the two ads below are most likely to sell your item? :-
“Ice cream maker, used twice, in good condition £10”
OR
“Kenwood T200 Ice cream maker 1 litre capacity, with instruction manual, in excellent condition, hardly used, makes 1 litre of delicious homemade ice cream in a jiffy. Get ready for those hot summer days.”

I know which one got my taste buds going!

REMEMBER – in the magazine ads are listed alphabetically, so don’t start your ad “3 berth caravan Elddis Tempest...” because that ad won’t appear listed amongst the other Elddis caravans in the mag, neither will a “2008 Vauxhall Astra” be listed with the other Vauxhall Astras.

Don’t waffle too much, but include size where it matters – furniture etc and give a fair indication of the condition. It is brand new and unused, say so.

If you are happy to split up a set of things - say so, customers are not mind readers.
Be realistic with the price, an item will go more quickly if it is sensibly priced. Check out what other people are selling theirs for. Everyone expects to negotiate anyway.

There is no need to include contact details or your location into the advert text, we add those on automatically, so save all of your word count for the description of your item.

So what are you waiting for? Go to it - happy selling!
