No need to stress over selling your car, it’s easy and free on AdTrader!
But preparation is key. Using our check list below you shouldn't go far wrong.
- Prepare your car, have it valeted or Wash, polish and vacuum the car, till it's gleaming
- Check oil, water and washer fluid levels
- Ensure all paperwork is to hand logbook, MOTs, service history, receipts.
- Write a concise advert summarising key points – stress exceptional areas, low mileage etc.
Start the advert with Brand and model, year, petrol or diesel, colour, features, mileage and condition – “ VW Polo Match 2009 petrol 1.6 etc…” - Attach good photographs -you can include up to nine pictures online and a Youtube video.
- To realistically price the car do your research, checking the price of similar vehicles on the AdTrader website or using a Glasses guide or similar. Adjust your price depending on condition, and how quickly you want to sell it.
- Try and arrange viewings in daylight.
- Don’t potential buyers drive it unless they have the correct insurance and a driving Licence.
- Never let buyers test drive the car alone and always keep the keys with you.
- Expect buyers to haggle -use your vehicle’s strong points to agree a price.
- Cash is the safest form of payment – count it make sure it isn’t counterfeit.
- Give a signed dated, receipt to the buyer and get them to sign a copy receipt for your records.
- Ask the buyer for ID -address and a landline telephone number.
- With other forms of payment keep the car until the payment has cleared in the bank. (This will take at least 5 working days).
- Always fill out the slip at the bottom of V5C and send to the DVLA -give the top part to the buyer.
